Six frying pans of different materials, including cast iron, ceramic, and a grill pan, on a wooden table

Nonstick Pans Compared

Choosing a nonstick pan shouldn't mean sorting through marketing claims on your own. We compare six popular pans on what they're made of and what's known about PFAS. Each row links to a guide with more detail.

At a Glance

  • All six brands say their pans are PFAS-free. What differs is the evidence behind the claim.
  • Caraway, Our Place, and HexClad publish PFAS test results from independent labs. We could not find published results for GreenPan, Xtrema, or Lodge.
  • Three pans use a ceramic coating on aluminum. HexClad pairs a stainless steel pattern with a ceramic coating, Xtrema is solid ceramic, and Lodge relies on seasoning.
  • Uncoated options such as cast iron avoid the coating question entirely, but need more care.

Earlier HexClad Hybrid pans used a PTFE coating; the current version uses a ceramic coating. Information last checked September 2026.
